The 4-1 victory adds to China’s gold medal sweep in the sport so far at the Paris Olympics, following his teammates’ earlier triumphs in the women’s singles and mixed doubles. Moregard had been on an incredible run after eliminating Fan’s teammate and world number one Wang Chuqin.
In the bronze match, 17-year-old Lebrun won France’s first table tennis medal since 2000 to cheer the home nation. The nail-biting final seemed like it could go either way in the first three games. Moregard was proactive in his attacks from the beginning, consistently landing the ball at tricky angles that prevented Fan from using his forceful forehand.
World champion Fan, determined to contribute to China’s gold dominance and win the title he lost to teammate Ma Long in Tokyo, lost the first game 11-7 but held his ground in the second and third games, winning both 11-9.

Despite many health problems, I still determined to participate in the club's large-scale tournament, gathering nearly 50 players with diverse playing styles and rich weapons. The tournament has 8 groups, each group is from 5 ~ 6 players, the players are ranked, handicap points so that the matches from the outer round to the final are dramatic and balanced. In addition to tennis players who have a very good understanding of their strengths and weaknesses, the tournament also has many new factors that are able to go deep into the inner rounds such as Khoa Chopper, Le, and Mr. Chung Mo...
In the group stage, when I will fight with President Van Anh, Mr. Chien, Mr. Thanh HTV (short pips), and an experienced long pips opponent, I thought it was very convenient to decide for myself the first or second place in the group to choose an opponent in the quarterfinals. However, in the first match against Mr. Chien (+2), I was thrown with a bucket of cold water with a 1-3 lost.
The 2nd match against President Van Anh (+3) helped me regain 3 points, but Mr. Chien then won against the experienced tennis player and came back to win Mr. Thanh (HTV) and Mr. Thanh (HTV) beat President Van Anh and the other experienced tennis player to shield the extremely difficult group situation because I only had one way to move on, which was to win Mr. Thanh (HTV, +202) and had to accept the second place in the group to keep my hopes alive.
Perhaps Mr. Thanh (HTV) also understands very well that the match against me is the match that decides the ticket to the next stage for both of us. While I have no way back because there are too many disadvantages, Mr. Thanh (HTV) has too many advantages such as scores, positions, handicaps... Putting aside all worries, I focused on the match and won the 1st set (+2) with a score of 11 - 9. Set 2 (+0) helped me have a better mentality and I won with the same score 11 - 9, pushing Mr. Thanh (HTV) into a heavy psychological situation and did not control the game, losing to me in the 3rd set. Losing the first match and bypassing through the narrow door are the 2 biggest surprises of the tournament.
In the quarterfinals, I met Le, a tennis player who is in very high form, young, strong, agile, very strong, uncomfortable serve while I have to handicap 202, the opportunity to move on seems very difficult. In the end, I took advantage of very heavy serves to the left to limit Le's attack, with Le's tee, I focused 90% on returning the ball to the backhand, making Le immediately fall into a state of being both unable to attack, and embarrassed, and I immediately hit Le's left wing to finish. I won the 1st set with a score of 11 - 7 after being led 1 - 4. In the 2nd set, Le changed his tactics and led himself with a score of 7 - 1, I considered finished, but I did not let go, diligently diligently diligently digested one by one and went up to 7 - 7 and then won 4 more points to win 11 - 7. This victory shattered Le's confidence, I saw that disappointment and I firmly believed that I would win the third set, and indeed I won the third set with a score of 11-8 to enter the semi-finals.
The four players who reached the semi-finals are me, Khoa, Mr. Chung Mo and Dung Gai, these are all players of Club P7, I have understood them very well and I immediately knew who is the opponent in the final is and what my chances of winning in the semi-finals and finals. In the semi-final match against Khoa (+222), I completely controlled Khoa and won 3 - 0 quickly. In the other semi-final match between Dung Gai and Mr. Chung Mo, Mr. Chung Mo almost made a big deal when he lost to Dung Gai close to the 2-3 button. In the final, although I had to handicap Dung Gai 202, thanks to my experience in fighting opponents with a pips racket and knowing Dung Gai too well, I won the 1st set. The second set equalized the ball, so I also continued to win. In set 3, the two sides fought for tension until 17-17, sometimes I thought it was better to let go to rest and regain the strength of playing set 4, but I thought what if my opponent won set 4 and had a better psychological momentum than playing set 5, every mistake would cost me a lot. The competition lasted from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and all the players, including me, were very tired. However, now or never, Dung Gai is also very determined and always in a state of lurking waiting for the opportunity to counterattack to win points. I was shocked mentally, determined to win as quickly as possible to avoid risks and after a series of tense balls, I won the 3rd set with a score of 19-17 to win the club's men's singles championship for the first time.
Thank you, the competitors for organizing and participating in a very large and meaningful tournament together.
